Aight!

In the summer Pembrokeshire is a playground, around every corner there is an activity from Climbing to Cliff hopping, from Downhill Biking to Uphill Gardening. In the winter months the days are short and for the working man surfing is only an option on the weekend, however with the summer bringing 16 hours of sunlight a day, there is plenty of opportunity for skampery. Like no other summer before, the SurfWithUs boys have been making the most of Pembrokeshire’s natural features (a few have been involved with some of Pembrokeshire’s unnatural features - girls from Milford)

This summer a select few have turned they’re hand to rock climbing. Pembrokeshire’s coastal climbs are internationally renowned and there are climbs available from the easy to the very hard. The SurfWithUs boys tend to stand out from the visiting crowds, their non textbook approach to anything seems to attract attention. When the gentry climbers from the Home Counties are shouting down to applaud the fellow climbers efforts, “well done James, that’s the ticket” the surfwithus equivalent is receiving a barrage of abuse “you disgust me! Uuuuurrrrghhh uuuuuuurrrgghhh”. Just not textbook.

Alex, Plumby, Jase and Bohatta have been taking there chances on the cliffs, especially around St.Govans and St.Davids. There have been some major successes as well as some pretty horrific falls. For example the other day Jaime was climbing when a small piece of climbing gear failed and came out of the rock he fell 50ft landing only a couple of feet above the grounds, Alex, who was belaying (anchoring) was lifted 8ft into the air as Jaime fell. Jason also learnt not to use his knees to climb the hard way. Snaps of both injuries are here. The only real successful climber has been Plumby, who’s power\weight ratio is equivalent to a honed athlete and seems to walk up cliffs, rather than climb them.

Of course there has been some surfing on the menu too, most breaks from Mid-Wales down have been visited, we even surfed some of them! Cow is a new break fiend, itching to drive down that narrow lane, or walk up the path in search of the ultimate break. The highlight thus far has been a super clean session in Newgale, 4footers with a direct offshore. Freshwater West deserves a nod for a recent classic summery session. We have visited one loyal break when all others are blown out, not naming any names, but this Cardiganshire spot hasn’t been classic, but wedgy and fun when all other breaks refused a wave. LLG x x x
